Correct surface preparation prior to the application of any type of coating or paint is a very important factor to consider, which has a direct impact on the final result of the same.

The performance of a protective coating is significantly influenced by its ability to adhere adequately to the substrate with the removal of oils, greases, old paints and surface contaminants such as mill scale and rust being of utmost importance.

With a correct surface preparation, a better resistance to corrosion over time is obtained, ensuring a correct roughness that allows a correct adhesion between the surface to be protected and the applied coating.

A surface preparation can be carried out in different ways, blasting or sandblasting, among current surface cleaning techniques, is the most economical method and with an uncontaminated environment.

The surface preparation works are standardized by various international associations, the most widespread being the American standard SSPC SP and the ISO 8501-11988 standard, defining in each category the different procedures required to perform a correct surface surface cleaning prior to the application of a coating or paint

  • SSPC SP standards: The methodology used is based on the comparison of the treated surface with the standard pattern, photographs
  • ISO 8501-1 1988 Standards: The methodology used is based on the comparison of the treated surface with the standard pattern with transparencies

Shot blasting is an impact surface treatment technique with which an excellent degree of cleaning can be achieved and simultaneously a correct surface finish on a wide range of metallic and non-metallic parts.

It is a flexible system since the shot can be transported in any direction. This process is widely used in the preparation of surfaces of complex or large structures and especially in work on site. The system allows to project any type of metallic or mineral abrasive.
